The purpose of this module is to examine the different aspects of the past of the global economy in a longue durée perspective and to help students:
-develop knowledge of the past global economies;
– understand the elements that contribute to the development or to the crisis and backwardness of economies;
-develop a critical approach and understanding of social and economic changes in a historical perspective.
This course analyzes the economic space of Europe in a dialogue with the social and political space of other geographical areas (USA, Africa, Asia, etc.). It examines issues related to the global economy in the perception of the Braudel’s longue durée (industrialization, imperial expansion, and empires, market economies, state intervention, welfare state, economies in liberal or totalitarian regimes, migrations, loans and crisis, economy in war or in peace, EU and other international organizations, etc.), It focuses on the notion of globalization and analyzes the processes through which the economic space experience development or crisis.
The assessment criteria will be announced at the beginning of every semester.
