General Objectives for both Levels (Level B2 – C1 and Level C2): Emphasis is given on the analysis of subject specific texts, paraphrasing skills, paragraph and essay writing skills, compiling academic bibliography, avoiding plagiarism and presentation skills.
English for Specific and Academic Purposes (Level B2 – C1).
Prerequisites and course content: Students who qualify for this course should have attended at least 5-6 years of General English (B2 – C1) prior to University registration and should submit their English Language Certificates along with their placement application form. However, students who have not acquired a B2 – C1 Certificate but wish to attend the specific level, have to sit a placement test and achieve a Pass Score (55 +%) in order to join the course. Students are taught how to organize information and give examples, classify and list, dive academic definitions as well as revise complex grammatical and syntactic structures in order to produce academic texts. They also develop academic reading strategies and enrich subject specific vocabulary through the use of field specific texts. Finally, they are taught how to deliver bibliography based academic presentations using visual aids and exercise their academic listening skills.
English for Specific and Academic Purposes (Level C2) Portfoglio.
Prerequisites and course content: Students who have recently acquired a C2 English language certificate (up to three years prior to their University registration) qualify for this course and need to submit their English Language Certificates along with their placement application form. They develop academic reading strategies and enrich subject specific vocabulary through the analysis of field specific texts. Finally, they are taught how to deliver bibliography based academic presentations using visual aids and exercise their academic listening skills.
