Module Objectives

General Objectives for both Levels (Level B2 – C1 and Level C2): Further emphasis is given on the analysis of subject specific texts, paraphrasing skills, paragraph and essay writing skills, compiling an academic bibliography, avoiding plagiarism and debate skills.

Course Content

English for Specific and Academic Purposes (Level B2 – C1).

Prerequisites and course content: Students who qualify for this course should not necessarily have passed English I but they need to have covered the study material of English I (Also see English I). Students are taught how to write paragraphs expressing cause and effect, paraphrase and refer to academic sources and describe and interpret graphs. They also develop academic reading strategies and enrich subject specific vocabulary through the use of field specific texts. Finally, they are taught how to deliver bibliography based academic debates.

Prerequisites and course content: Students who qualify for this course should not necessarily have passed English I but they need to have covered the study material of English I (Also see English I). Students further develop academic reading strategies, paraphrasing skills and bibliography based academic debates. Finally they submit a bibliography based academic essay (literature review).

• Debate/Presentation topics (for both levels) and essay writing topics (Portfoglio) are provided by the tutors and there is a deadline for choosing a topic and submitting first draft and final essay.
• Pass marks should be obtained in debate/presentation and written exams (Level B2-C1) and in debate/presentation, first draft and final essay (Portfoglio).
