This course aims to introduce students to the basic concepts of population analysis. Students are initiated into demographic analysis; they study the demographic events, their overtime trends and spatial differentiations and get accustomed to calculating and interpreting the basic demographic indicators.
The main goal of this course is to provide the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for the analysis of interactions between population on one side, and economy, society and environment on the other.
Population Analysis – Demographic Events (Fertility, Mortality, Migration) -Demographic Indicators -Trends and -Regional disparities – Demographic, Economic and Social Features of Populations – Population Dynamics – Population – Natural Ressources – Environment
The teaching method consists of a 3-hour lecture per week. Students are encouraged to attend and actively participate in all lectures. A couple of laboratory sessions are scheduled for better approaching the quantitative section of the course.
The course assessment relies on a 3-hour written examination at the end of the semester (providing the 70% of the final grade), combined with a mid-term exam (contributing to the rest 30%).
